Taeyeon is stepping down from her position as a leader?

15 12 2009

As some of you may have heard, there were rumors about SNSD’s leader, Taeyeon, possibly stepping down from her position as a leader.

On a recent recording of SBS Strong Heart, Taeyeon finally talked about the rumor and it seems to not be a rumor at all!

She commented:

I have never talked about this in a broadcast before. I will be revealing this for the first time in Strong Heart. I have stepped down from my position as SNSD’s leader. … It isn’t easy to lead all 9 nine members of SNSD. … Recently, there was a crucial incident which happened in our dorm…

Wondering what the “incident” is? Stay tuned for the broadcast on the 15th!

SNSD’s “Gee” is the MV of the year

15 12 2009

That’s right, SNSD’s Gee, which has been seen by millions of people, has been declared as the music video of the year by GOM TV’s GOM Music Chart (GMC)!

Nine of the ten spots in the Top 10 were taken by idol groups, mainly 2NE1, Brown Eyed Girls, and 2PM. From the Top 10, eight of the spots were taken by girl groups, proving that the year of 2009 was indeed the year of girl groups.

SNSD’s Gee had over 100 million view counts on GOM TV and maintained their first place status over a period of 10 weeks on GOM’s MV charts. SNSD’s Tell Me Your Wish also ranked 9th in the Top 10, which further proved these girls to be one of, if not the best, girl group of the year.

Following Gee was G-Dragon’s Heartbreaker. Heartbreaker had nearly 90 million views and had a 6 week domination period in 1st place on the MV charts. 2NE1’s Fire was right behind Heartbreaker, claiming 3rd place. 2NE1 proved that they were worthy of the title “Rookie of the Year,” as their Lollipop and I Don’t Care also took their own spots, each ranking 4th and 8th respectively.

Following 2NE1, Brown Eyed Girls took 5th place with their MV for Abracadabra, which accumulated around 88 million view counts. The 6th place was taken by Son Dambi’s Saturday Night/ She was the only one who was not in a idol group. 2PM’s Heartbeat, which was released quite recently compared to the rest, took 7th place. The last place was taken by Park Bom’s first solo single, You and I. Here’s the full list:

Top 10
1. SNSD – Gee
2. G-Dragon – Heartbreaker
3. 2NE1 – Fire
4. 2NE1 & Big Bang – Lollipop
5. Brown Eyed Girls – Abracadabra
6. Son Dambi – Saturday Night
7. 2PM – Heartbeat
8. 2NE1 -I Don’t Care
9. SNSD – Tell Me Your Wish
10. Park Bom – You and I

Stay tuned for GMC’s live broadcast on the 18th, which will bring you the winner of 2009’s “Best Honey Legs” and “Top 5 Abs.

SHINee vows to return to Philippines

15 12 2009

Korean idol group SHINee will likely include the Philippines in their itinerary if they embark on an Asian tour.

SHINee members Onew, Jonghyun, Minho, and Key made the announcement at the press conference following their participation in the concert dubbed “Philippines-Korea Friendship Festival,” held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on Nov. 27.

SHINee is part of the current hallyu, or Korean wave, currently sweeping Asia. They debuted in the Korean music scene in 2008 under SM Entertainment agency, which also manages boy bands TVXQ and Super Junior.

“It was such an amazing experience. I actually cried,” one Filipino fan posted on the SHINee World Philippines fan forum after watching the pop idol group performed.

SHINee’s repertoire included “Stand by Me”, a song from the official soundtrack of the Korean hit drama series, “Boys over Flowers;” “Juliette,” one of their hits in Korea; and “Ring Ding Dong,” the group’s latest output that has already won several awards. Their fifth member, Taemin, was unable to join the concert due to illness.

Fans of the Korean boy band—many of whom wore SHINee t-shirts and brought banners and balloons—started lining up outside CCP as early as 1 p.m., some four hours before showtime. Many of the concertgoers got their tickets through a raffle sponsored by Arirang TV days prior.

The “Philippines-Korea Friendship Festival” concert was emceed by VJ Isak of Arirang TV’s “Pops in Seoul” and Filipino actor Luis Manzano. The opening remarks were given by Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Choi Joong Kyung.

Other featured acts were Filipino dance troupe Teatro Miguel, reggae band Brownman Revival, Korean jazz group Winterplay, and Korean rap duo Mighty Mouth.

The concert was part of the Korean Cultural Festival in the Philippines. It was organized by Korean broadcast station Arirang TV and government-owned TV station NBN, with support from Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Korea Communications Commission; the Korean Embassy in the Philippines; United Korean Community Association in the Philippines; Department of Tourism; Hanjin; ABS-CBN; SkyCable and Global Destiny.

SHINee is the first Korean idol group to hold a concert in the Philippines.

You’re Beautiful gets 20 episode Director’s Cut DVD set

14 12 2009

With Jang Geun Suk and Park Shin Hye penciled in as hosts for the upcoming Melon Music awards, there was more good news for fans of the drama, You’re Beautiful as it was announced today that the Director’s Cut DVD set will be released early next year!

Despite ending not too long ago, many fans are still talking about the drama as if it’s still airing now, as they are unable to extract themselves from it.

It was announced by the Hong Sisters (Hong Mi Ran, Hong Jung Eun) that a Director’s Cut DVD set will be launched soon with unreleased scenes to better address some parts of the storyline that had been edited away for broadcast on SBS.

So instead of 16 episodes, the DVD set (with english subtitles, not including BTS) will contain 20 episodes after adding in the unreleased scenes.

The Hong Sisters expressed, “There were too many scenes in the broadcast version revolving around Jang Geun Suk and Park Shin Hye’s characters. Many of Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Hong Ki’s scenes were edited out, including the background story of Jeremy’s bus, plus many other touching stories. We felt that it would be a pity to let those scenes go to waste so we decided to add them to the DVD set.”

The drama might have ended in Korea but it is still continuing to be a topic of interest with broadcast rights for it already acquired in Japan, Taiwan, etc. In addition, the production company has also been receiving lots of calls from others for a musical and movie adaptation. So get ready to save and splurge on that DVD set in January 2010.

For international fans, please visit this blog to order your copy.

SNSD and Super Junior to team up for SBS Gayo Daejun special stage!

14 12 2009

SNSD and Super Junior rocked 2009 with hits like Gee and Sorry Sorry, and it looks like they’re going to end the year with a bang at the SBS Gayo Daejun (end of the year) show! SBS has confirmed a special stage featuring these two SM Entertainment artists.

Super Junior will be attending the Gayo Daejun show with an exciting performance. … Due to their individual activities and Asia Second Tour, Super Junior haven’t been able to meet with fans in Korea much,” a SBS representative stated. “After Super Junior completed promotions for Sorry Sorry, they began activities like acting in dramas, hosting as MCs and being DJs on radios. Super Junior has chosen the SBS Gayo Daejun stage for its Korean fans. Aside from Kibum who is in the middle of filming and Kangin who is taking a break, all members will be attending this event.

So what do you guys think is in store for us? A twenty-member Genie dance? Maybe member couples like we saw in SNSD and Super Junior’s Seoul Song MV? Share your guesses below!

2NE1 is debuting in Thailand?!

14 12 2009

It’s been a long time coming, but they’re here now, and they’re about to set the roof on fire. Earlier today we introduced the Chinese Girls’ Generation, and now we have a Thai 2NE1. Two copycats in one day? Now we’re talking!

Half way into the teaser I kinda expected them to sing “Eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh. We’re 2NE2!” Get it? “We’re 2NE too!” However, the group is actually called Candy Mafia and this teaser is for their new song “Mafia“. Well, they probably are the mafia because stealing is a crime yo. Although I have to say, Candy Mafia is a really cute name. It’s almost as cute as Panty Mafia, almost.

I don’t think anyone can deny the fact that they’re copying 2NE1’s Fire (space version) music video. They even have four members just like 2NE1 does. Although I’m having a hard time figuring out who’s supposed to be CL and who’s supposed to be Minzy since Candy Mafia doesn’t have any obviously ugly members. Haha I’m only joking Blackjacks. There’s no need to curse me out, call me ugly, and spit on my face. That’s what my mom is for.

It seems that they don’t just like 2NE1, but are also quite fond of 4Minute as well. Here’s a video of them dancing to 4Minute’s Muzik.

I thought the dance was flawless, but then again I’m only judging it based on their ability to do the chest pop. Girls seem to always underestimate the power of a chest pop. You won’t believe the kind of things you can get away with just by popping out your chest. Pulled over for speeding? Pop out your chest. Want a promotion? Pop out your chest. No money for lunch? Pop out your chest. Can’t win an argument? Pop out your chest. Computer has a virus? Pop out your chest!

All in all, I personally don’t care about Candy Mafia copying 2NE1, as long as they pay royalties to the original. In fact, I think it’s actually a good thing because chances are we’re never going to see 2NE1 expanding into Thailand. Also, it’s not like I can fault the girls of Candy Mafia for the plagiarism either because they probably had no say in it. I mean just like most Kpop idols, they too just wanted to be stars. And pursuing your dreams is something I can definitely respect.

Thanks lissette for the tip.

Jang Geun Suk doesn’t have women lining up for his heart

14 12 2009

Star of You’re Beautiful Jang Geuk Suk was interviewed by Entertainment Relay and was asked about his love life.

The news portal asked him, “Have you ever had someone confess their love for you?” When I first heard this, I thought it was kind of ridiculous. How could anyone not have a crush on a popular and good-looking actor?

Instead, Jang Geun Suk gave a shocking confession, responding, “No female stars have.” He quickly changed his answer and said, “There has been one! There has!” Wow! One person, seriously?

He seemed quite excited to admit that. It almost looked like he was surprised by the fact that he had been hit on before.

He continued, “It happened when I was drinking tea. She said, ‘I think I’d be a good match for you.’ But then she never called me after that.”

Jang Geun Suk also made it clear that he was a lot like his character on You’re Beautiful, stating, “I am a bad boy. I feel like I’d have no charm if I were nice to my girlfriend all the time. If I get a girlfriend though, I think I’d do a good job.”

To get back to his other confession, what has this world come to? So few people hit on Jang Geun Suk that he can’t even remember?

Poor guy… at least half of the women in Korea probably want to date him now after You’re Beautiful anyway, right?
